Revamp your kitchen for the price of a tin of paint
These days there is a paint for any surface so if your kitchen cupboard doors are made from non standard materials and you dont know which paint to use then simply contact a local decorator or a local decorators trade centre and most will be happy to advise you, as a painter and decorator in my home town of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, I have on my website www.dn3decorating.co.uk the message "even if you only require advice we are happy to help", but even those who don't say it will be pleased at an opportunity to show off there knowledge.
Preparing the site.
As the most popular materials the doors are made from are woods and laminates I will focus on these. First you will require an area where you can work besides the kitchen itself as you will need to remove the doors for preparing and painting, you will also require dust free dust sheets to paint your doors on and preferably some thin off cuts to stand your doors on to minimise the contact between the wet paint and the dust sheets. It is important at this point to stress that this area is not for any prepping work it is for painting only.
Preparing the doors.
Okay, so we have our painting area ready so now we need to remove the doors and then the door furniture, handles and hinges, then if the weather is fine take the doors outside and using a very fine sandpaper begin preparing the surface, remember to do both sides ( a 50cm door should take about 2-3 minutes per side of sanding) this time will vary depending on the condition of each individual door but it will serve as a rough guide. Sanding completed, using sugar soap thoroughly wash down the doors as they may and probably will have grease on them even though you can't see it and it could penetrate through the paint if not thoroughly dealt with. When dry go over them again with a tack cloth, these are cloths that will remove any dust that may remain on the door, you can buy them from any trade centre or large D.I.Y store.
Applying the paint.
The next stage is to take the doors to the dust free area and apply the primer coat and for this stage I would use Zinsser primer sealer stain killer, this will block the original colour of the doors, help the finishing paint to bond and seal it, and as it is an acrylic it will be dry in about 15 minutes and recoatable in 45.
Now the good bit, applying the two finishing coats. Sand down using a between coats paper and wipe with a tack cloth. first which paint ? this will depend on the finish you are looking for but i would reccomend an eggshell finish and Dulux Diamond eggshell in particular because as the name suggests it provides a diamond hard finish with excellent adhesion quality's. Apply the eggshell using 4" sponge gloss rollers after first using a brush on the "fiddly bits", mouldings etc; then simply roll the paint on to the suface of the door, it will be dry in less than an hour but leave for about 6 hours giving the first coat time to cure then sand with between coats paper clean off with a tack cloth and apply the final coat, leave overnight to cure and re fix the handles and hinges. job done.

Painting Silver Warhammer

Warhammer painting help.?
It seems that no matter what i do i can not get GW paint to stick to metal figures.
heres my process:
-I prime the metal figure with chaos black spray paint.
-I wait 5 mins and then do another layer of primer.
-I wait one min, then add my first layer of paint.
-I then add a dry brush of a different color to first layer of paint.
-i wait 10 mins, take my figure nail to the paint and it scratches the paint off, leaving a silver metal hole where the paint used to be. It even takes off the black primer.
can someone suggest what might be wrong? Thanks
Your not giving the primer enough time to dry. Try a few hours at least, so it really sets in. And even then I don't know if it could hold up against being scrapped off by your nail. But your just not giving it enough time to dry most likely.

Butterflies: Such Amazing Creatures
Have you ever wondered how an ugly creature can turn into one of the most beautiful insects? The answer to this is not a fairy tale. Try to check out the butterfly's life cycle and you will see how the impossible is made possible. This is just one of the many wonders of nature. Imagine how a caterpillar turns into an amazing creature like a butterfly – it's pretty amazing.
After the caterpillar turns into a pupa, it becomes a butterfly after sometime. Butterflies are large insects that flaunt their beautiful wings when they fly. They can be seen in all countries around the globe especially in areas that are topical. And there are different types of butterflies that can be found in this world.
Here are some of the types of butterflies:
American Painted Lady – this type you can normally see in desserts, meadows and mountains. They feast on the nectars of zinnia, thistle, mint, heliotrope and butterfly bush. Sunflower, thistle, wormwood, borage and hollyhocks are some of this type's host plants
Hummingbird Sphinx Moth – they are easily visible during the day and mostly seen in open areas where host plants grow. They feed on the nectar of four o'clocks, lilacs, nicotiana and petunias. Their host plant is snowberry.
European Cabbage White – found in agricultural fields, gardens and woodlands. They feast on the nectar of Black-eyed susan, dogbane, loose-strife, milkweed, and purple coneflower. Their host plant is violet.
Monarch – they are normally seen in open areas, meadow, fields, marshes and roadside. Butterfly bush, cosmos, lilac, lantana, mints and milkweed are the sources of the nectars that they take. Host plant for this type is the milkweed.
Orange sulfur – they can be found in fields, meadows and lawns and consider legumes, alfalfa, clovers, trefoil and vetch as their host plants. They like the nectars of aster, clover and alfalfa.
Red Admiral or Vanessa Atalanta – they love the nectars of butterfly bush, dandelion, ageratum, milkweed, red clover and even that of the rotten fruits. Nettle family is their host plant and open woodland, forest edge, meadows and stream banks are considered to be their natural habitat.
Fritillaries which include Great spangled (Speyeria cybele), variegated (Euptoieta claudia) and silver bordered (Clossiana selene) – violet is their host plant and they feast on black-eyed susan, dogbane, loose-strife, purple, milkweed and cornflower. They are normally seen at their natural habitats which are the open areas, fields and forest edges.
Tomato Hornworm Sphinx Moth (Manduca Quinquemaculata) – grown up butterflies of this type feasts on nicotiana, petunia datura, four o'clocks and phlox. The can be seen in agricultural fields and gardens mostly at dusk and night. Its caterpillar form depends on tomatoes, tobacco, potatoes, peppers and eggplant to grow.
Butterflies, both in caterpillar and grown-up form, depend on plants for food. The caterpillar depends on the host plants and the butterfly gets the nectars from flowers and plants. The good thing about this is after they get their food from plants they help them back through pollination. This is something that human should do as well. They should learn that after receiving they have to give back.

Recycled Metal Garden Art - Fun, Playful and Eco-Friendly
Avid gardeners are generally very green folk. They like digging in the dirt, recycling and composting, and easily incorporate other people's discards into their outdoor decor. When looking for interesting pieces to decorate their yards, recycled metal garden art is a popular choice.
Recycled metal garden art is a true reflection of the artist's personality and ingenuity. What may be trash to you or me is reborn in the hands of these eco-artists. One artist, Andrew Chase, makes amazing mechanical structures of giraffes, elephants and robots from recycled automobile and plumbing parts. He gets discarded engine and transmission parts from his local auto repair, and by combining these with plumbing pipes and fixtures he is able to create wonderful, moving creatures.
Old oil tanks and drums are quite commonly used to make metal garden art. Painted oil tanks that once supplied fuel to cottagers are cut down into brightly colored critters, including dogs with bones, dancing sheep or moose, lurking alligators and climbing frogs. For something a little different you can even add a diva or a devil!
In Haiti a growing crafts community is creating wonderful metal wall sculptures from flattened drums which were once used to transport oil or other products. After removing the ends these drums are flattened and then carved by hand into exotic works of art. Using only hammers, chisels and other simple tools, the artists carve elaborate, decorative designs out of the steel. Haitian drum art is world renowned and spreading in popularity. It makes a striking piece of wall art for inside the house or in the garden.
Saving bicycles from untimely graves a new breed of artists are using recycled bikes parts to create their art. Bike art has become so popular it is a genre of its own. With gears and wheels, nuts and bolts, spokes and bars, a bicycle is the perfect raw material for recycled metal art.
Part of the appeal of recycled metal garden art is the weathered and often rusted look of some of the pieces. Rusted metal has a natural, earthy feel to it and blends with the garden rather than making a loud statement. For this reason a lot of gardeners seek out pre-rusted metal art.
The ingenuity of artists working with recycled metal never ceases to amaze me. Add some recycled metal art to your yard and add instant character and charm.

Concern China Oil Painting Reproduction
Concern china oil painting reproduction
China’s low cost and hunger for exports have already changed many industries, from home appliances to food and life. The art world,at least art for the masses, seems to be next, and is emerging as a miniature case study of China’s successful expansion in a long list of small and obscure industries that when taken together represent a sizable chunk of economic activity.
United States customs data show that imports of Chinese oil paintings nearly tripled from 2000 to 2008, with bulk shipments reaching $30.5 million last year. Retail sales are several times that, as the customs data are based on the price that entrepreneurs pay for bulk purchases. The biggest market for oil paintings portrait painting canvas wall art abstract art frames from China turns out to be in Florida condominiums and other second homes being built as part of the global housing market boom. Hotels and restaurants also buy large numbers of Chinese paintings.
China is rapidly expanding art colleges, turning out tens of thousands of skilled artists each year willing to work cheaply. The Internet is allowing these assembly-line paintings to be sold all over the world; the same technology allows families across America to arrange for their portraits to be painted in coastal China. Many of the paintings depict scenes that Chinese artists have never seen. “European landscapes, like the Mediterranean or Venice or Paris, are the best sellers for us,”
As in the United States and Europe, a handful of contemporary painters in China can command hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars for each of their highly creative works - artists like Chen Yifei, Zhao Wuji and Wu Guanzhong. But the main push by China has been in the broad market for works that retail for $500 or less, with painters who work from postcards or images on the Internet or, in Mr. Zhang’s case, a large, dog-eared copy of an art book in English on van Gogh.
China’s ability to turn what has long been an individual craft into a mass production industry may affect small-scale artists from Rome’s Spanish Steps to the sidewalks along Santa Monica’s beach in California, as well as many galleries and art colonies in between.

Is there lead paint in pet toys made in china?
I never really considered what my dogs were putting in their mouths, until my mother pointed out that some of their toys are made in China. Am I worried over nothing? Should we be concerned about what kind of animal toys they are shipping over here? With the bad food and the lead paint, whats else are we not noticing?
Lead has been found in painted baby toys made in China so it is entirely possible that the paint on dogs toys is lead too. I would not give your dogs these toys, just to be safe.

Rocking Horse Plans the Kids Will Love
Rocking Horse Plans
There are many rocking horse plans available, in sizes that range from toddler to adult-sized horses. Plans for rocking horses may include specialized detailing allowing it to become a circus or carousel horse or a knight's battle horse. There are plans for rocking cows, rocking donkeys, rocking teams of horses and many more. Choosing which plan to use may take more time than building the rocking horse.
Age Appropriate
Before choosing a woodworking plan to build a rocking horse consider the age of the child for which it is intended. Some plans will indicate age appropriate designs. Taller rocking horses would be a fall hazard for a toddler. A toddler-sized rocking horse would not allow a pre-school child to rock. Some of the rocking horse plans include metal hardware and slats that could pose problems for younger children. Woodworking plans are detailed and many provide pictures of the finished project. Choosing a plan that is right for the child will provide many hours of imaginative fun and enjoyment.
Wood
There are many types of wood available for constructing rocking horses. Beginning woodworkers should consider making their first rocking horse from pine. Pine is inexpensive and is easy to work with. Carousel and circus horses have painted decorations. Using a less expensive type of wood is smart since the grain of more expensive woods would be hidden under paint. Once familiar with the plans, cherry, oak, walnut and ash are excellent choices for rocking horses. Using more than one type of wood will allow you to use heavy hardwoods on the lower parts providing stability while constructing the upper parts from a lighter less dense wood allows more ease in movement.
Finishes
There are as many ways to finish rocking horses as there are plans to build them. Wood stains are available in many shades for all types of wood. Stains for wood are also available in colors to match or accent any décor. Rocking horse plans occasionally come with finishing suggestions and tips. Varnish or polyurethane will produce a shiny finish while oils produce a soft natural finish. Painting the completed horse allows for unique and personalized finishes. Little girls might prefer a carousel horse while little boys who dream of being a knight might prefer an armored knight's horse.
Finishing Touches
Rocking horses are unique toys for children. Some plans list special materials that will allow the project to come alive. Yarn or unbraided rope can be added for the mane and tail. Covering the seat area with leather and adding reins gives a western rocking horse the feel of a real cowboy's horse. Using fur, thick material or some other fabric can help protect toddlers from hard surfaces when placed on the seat, and used as manes and tails. Metal studs can be added to work horses along with leather harnesses to provide an authentic feel to a Clydesdale rocking horse.
Rocking horse plans are plentiful and many are available online for all woodworking skill levels. Talking to the little one who will receive the rocking horse may help in choosing the right set of plans.

horse color question? paint?
I know I should know this, but whats the differance between piebald, tobiano, overo, paint, and well I dont remember for some reason right now what the other ones were but whats the difference?
Piebald is a black/white pinto(http://www.coloredhorses.com/DrumsRoyalArts.jpg ), and a skewbald( http://www.coloredhorses.com/ScotchFizz.jpg ) is is any other color/white pinto. These terms are typically used over in the Uk as they have been replaced by the below terms in the states.
Paint is a stock breed while Pinto is a color.
Tobiano (http://www.equusite.com/articles/basics/colors/colorsTobiano05.shtml )as decribed by UC Davis: The pattern is clearly marked and characterized by white across the spine that extends downward between the ears and tail. The skin underlying the white spots is pink and under the colored areas it is black. The eyes are usually brown, but one or both may be blue or partially blue. The head is dark, with white markings like those of a solid colored horse. Usually, all four legs are white below the hocks and knees. The spots are generally regular and distinct as ovals or round patterns. The tail can be two colors—a characteristic seldom seen in horses that are not tobiano. A tobiano can be predominantly dark or white.
Overo's can be classified as frame, sabino, and splash white. There is also Tovero in which the horse carries a tobiano and one of the overo genes. Tovero: (http://www.equusite.com/articles/basics/colors/colorsTovero03.shtml )
Overo's the white usually does not cross back. They may have wild patterns of color.
Frame: White is on sides with base color over back, on belly, rear, shoulders like a frame. (http://www.whitehorseproductions.com/images/overo_tbs/tri-chrome.jpg ) (http://www.coloredhorses.com/MrNorfleet.jpg )
Splash white: White is on legs and belly, looks as if it had been dipped in white paint. (http://www.coloredhorses.com/BarlinkUltraLite.jpg ), ( http://www.coloredhorses.com/SpanishDuke.jpg )
Sabino: (http://www.coloredhorses.com/FirstClass.jpg ) A sabino horse has a dark base coat with a unique overlying spotting pattern. It is one of the most confusing colors to explain because a wide range of patterns are considered acceptable. White stockings that extend past the knee or hock, sometimes combined with a bald face (white extending to or past the eyes) are considered evidence of at least minimal expression of the sabino gene-complex. Anyone have ideas for a clutter free art space in a bedroom?
We live in a small townhome, but I have a bedroom where I can set up a space of my own (have to leave the bed in there, plus dresser. I plan to use some of the dresser drawers for storage, and I have a table and an easel. Does anyone have any storage ideas for the walls? I hate clutter and like things to be put away. I do drawing and acrylic/watercolor painting.
You can hang shelves from the walls for more storage. Also there is magnetic paint you could put up on some of the wall space. Put several coats on and then paint over it with your regular wall color. Get lots of little magnets to hang your art work on the wall.
