Acrylic Paintings on Canvas
Acrylic paint on canvas is now finding its way into collections of art appreciators all across the world. Many famed collections of assembled works of various artists now contain more than 50% of works painted using acrylic. As more artists move from the days of oil and watercolors to the future of acrylic, more collections will contain a higher concentration of these works.
Artists that have been trained in the classical techniques are now applying their studies to the canvas with acrylics. As the new medium of choice for the avant garde painters of today, acrylic paints are quickly taking the lead as the predominant choice for painting on canvas, paper, or any of the several materials that can hold the acrylic.
These works can now be painted faster than ever because of how fast they dry. High quality acrylic on canvas is the choice for the masters of modern painting. The true excellence of this paint is its ability to mesh well with any other type of material. Artists are able to mix it with anything from sawdust to metals to make new hues and incredible new textures.
Many other famous painters of our day are creating modern masterpieces. One such artist in Boston, Massachusetts, Veny is making quite a name for herself in the art world. Her mixture of styles based on her years of classical study of the masters along with her days spent in France and Italy, have given her the ability to create anything that she sees in high quality acrylic paintings.
The master works that are being created by Veny are being sought after by many collectors across the globe. Every brushstroke is an intense feeling of emotion and beauty. Veny, having dedicated her life to the fine arts, shows her success in the pursuit of excellence in artistry in every painting that she creates.
Adding acrylic art to a collection of fine artworks combines the old and the new masters in a comprehensive and attractive way. As expert artists such as Veny appear on the art scene, they will continue to bring art to life with acrylic painting. The value of these works is ever increasing and many artists are having their entire collections purchased by shrewd art investors. This monopoly of talent makes finding works by Veny a real opportunity for those that wish to create a legacy of art appreciation with true value for their family.
There are new collections being made everyday and new collectors from all walks of life. Those that may have originally just purchased a painting to decorate their home now want to add more of these works to their collections. Acrylic paint on canvas is becoming the next wave of fine arts to appear in homes and offices across the world. As more of this work is made available to the world, the closer the people of the world will be able to get. Art has a way of knocking down barriers of difference and bringing peace and understanding to so many people.

Every picture is worth a thousand words, because each painting not only tells the story of its creation; the story of the subject, but also the story of the artist that created it. Blended in the fine acrylic paints of Veny's canvases are her lifetime of experiences including her early beginnings in Eastern Europe. Veny was born in Bulgaria in 1970. Growing up in the beautiful city of Sofia, Veny was no stranger to the arts and creativity, as her immediate family was comprised of a professional photographer, a building engineer and her grandfather George, a self tough oil painter, who worked as a humor and satire writer.
Can I spraypaint a canvas and then paint acrylic paint over it?
I need a black background on a big canvas I have and I'm almost out of black paint and don't feel like going to the store to buy more paint. I do, however, have black spraypaint and was wondering if I could just spray paint the canvas black and then paint on it with acrylic paint. Would this work? Will the paint stick?
Depends.
Oil, no.
Acrylic, yes.
Water, yes.
Oil will make other layers peel off and grow bubbles.

Paintings For Your Home
You might want to buy few nice paintings for your home or office but aren’t able to figure out what exactly to opt for. Purchasing tasteful paintings is a costly affair and hence needs adequate preparation. Before making a purchase, one should be aware of the various genres of painting.
Landscape painting is exactly what it sounds like- depiction of landscapes. These paintings are known for their striking landscapes with animals or people in the background or nothing at all. Another subgenre by the name of waterscape painting has also become popular.
Portraits are relatively close-range renditions of people. These portraits chiefly concentrate on realistic details of face, body, clothing and background. Its subgenre, animal portraiture, depicts animals especially pets in realistic details.
Still Life oil paintings focus on depicting objects from close range in realistic terms. Flowers, fruits, glass wares, or other decorative objects on a table or a flat surface usually form the subject of these paintings. These paintings focus on depiction of objects in realistic terms rather than using impressionistic techniques.
Abstract art paintings focus on line, shape, color instead of realistic forms. An abstract painter tries to project a certain mood or create a visual effect. Since abstract painting has multiple styles, choose only those that match the color scheme of your home interiors.
It is not much a matter of concern whether the paintings are original or reproductions of any famous art work. Choose painting styles that best match your home interiors. Landscape paintings in a big living room look majestic. On the other hand, abstract paintings look better in rooms with warm colors. So do your best to choose the painting type that best matches your home interior and enhances its overall look and feel.

How to keep sky clean when painting plein aire oil landscapes?
I paint trees and sky next to each other - but end up getting bits and smears of green mixed into the blue sky b/c i'm trying to cover up the canvas. how do i avoid this? wipe the brush off between dabs of paint? any suggestions?
I think you should consider painting a different way...forget about the edges of tree and sky... work the detail levels simultaneously all over the canvas, not bringing one part (trees/sky edges) to finish before the rest. In other words, develop all parts of the painting simultaneously. If that degree of realism is needed, then make sure all parts of the painting are finished to that level. Mistakes can be wonderful so don't be too quick to re-work a green sky smear. It could look like blowing leaves.

I am going to paint zebra stripes on my dresser drawers. How do I do this?
I want to use tape because I don't think i would be very good at drawing the stripes. How do I tear the tape so it will look right? I don't want the stripes to look to thin. Also how do I know where to place each piece of tape?
Zebra stripes aren't straight up and down, and I really think you'd get much better results free-styling them. What you'll need to paint the stripes is a couple of cheap water color brushes ~ one that's about 1" wide and one that's 1/8" inch wide.
First, paint the draws white. Let dry.
Next, find a picture of zebra stripes to use as a reference. Lightly sketch the stripe pattern with pencil on the white paint.
Use the paint brushes to paint your stripes, taking care to cover the pencil marks with the black paint.
that's it
It's been my experience that taping just doesn't work well,...because not only can it take off the base paint, the black paint tends to wick beneath the tape edge leaving weird little blobs.

Quotations on life
Actually some quotes are like this:-
It's not true that life is one damn thing after another; it is one damn thing over and over.
***********************************************************************
Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporaneity;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.
************************************************************************
Life is a thing that mutates without warning, not always in enviable ways. All part of the improbable adventure of being alive, of being a brainy biped with giant dreams on a crazy blue planet.
you're alive. Do something. The directive in life, the moral imperative was so uncomplicated. It could be expressed in single words, not complete sentences. It sounded like this: Look. Listen. Choose. Act
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.
*************************************
"For anything worth having one must pay the price; and the price is always work, patience, love, self-sacrifice"
"To live and let live, without clamour for distinction or recognition; to wait on divine love; to write truth first on the tablet of one's own heart - this is the sanity and perfection of living."
Many great people have come before us. Through their actions and through their words, they have inspired us to achieve our own greatness in life, to challenge the status quo, to reach for the stars and to overcome the gravest of hardships. For example, a life quote on not having regrets is captured beautifully by John Gardner: "Life is the art of drawing without an eraser."
In nine simple, elegant words, he paints with broad brush strokes the importance of having passion, about living life fully and without having any desire to change anything that transpires - it is a quote about life that is born from living it and expressing its lessons to others.
In fact, that is one of the best uses for a quote on life. While it can be hard, if not impossible, for the ordinary person - or even an experienced writer - to capture the theme or essence of a speech or presentation - the right quote can do it quickly and effectively. It can save you hours of toying with words or stressing over the empty page that is before you, deadline looming.

Do You Have A Quotation About Books or Reading?
Hi, I am painting a library area for a charity tomorrow and have thought about putting 'a' or 'some' inspirational quote/s on the freshly decorated wall. I don't mean quotations from books but about books. Do you have any?
chickade, I love "“We read to know we are not alone.” It is so appropriate as the charity is for homeless and marginalised people. Thank you so much x

Interior House Painting Tips
Painting is the last great do-it-yourself project. Our cars may have gotten so advanced that it takes a computer hacker to fix them, our computers have simply revolted and will be taking over any day now, and various home repair jobs grow ever more complex. We finish a carpentry job only to discover that our shelves fall down, our decks tilt, and doors never hang quite the way we intended them to.
But anybody can slap paint on a wall, right? We still have a safe perimeter of pioneering frontier staked out in the realm of painting. The rest of civilization can go on being digital, but painting will always remain a satisfyingly, soothingly analog pursuit.
Things you'll need:
Rollers, two sizes of brushes, a trim or cornering (sponge) brush. Paint pan. An unbelievable amount of rags for wiping up. Either or all of newspapers, drop clothes or plastic sheeting plus a few rolls of masking tape. Painter's coveralls, shoe slip-ons, and hairnets, maybe a few spare sets in case it's a mutli-day job. Perhaps a couple of screwdrivers for removing fixtures and such.
Not everybody, but some will also need: Wall scrapers, putty and putty knives, caulking and caulking guns, wire brushes, extra pail and roller grid, painter's specialty paint pads, ladders, scaffolds, sandpaper, and spackling compound. Oh yeah, and paint!
Preparation:
This is where ninety percent of the difference between the amateurs and the pros comes out. Think of the key to good painting as spending two days prepping a room that will take half a day to paint. Never, ever say to yourself, "I don't need to cover that. Paint would never get there!" Yes it will! Paint will go places you never thought possible, no matter how careful you are. At the very least, compare the two hours to cover something to not covering it and spending three days afterward with a razor scraper trying to get paint off of it. Cover it.
Everything that's in the room and isn't fastened to it must come out or at the very least be shoved together in the middle of the room and covered. Using either newspapers (less stable), dropcloths (more stable), or plastic sheeting (much stronger) and duct tape, cover every surface in the room which you don't want paint on. The floor should probably take plastic sheeting, especially if it's carpeted or you're going to be dragging a ladder around on it. Windows can be covered with newspapers. Everything gets secured with masking tape. By the way, this is where "masking tape" gets it's name: you're using it to apply a mask to the room before you swab paint on it, then removing the mask.
Consider removing metal and plastic fixtures from the room. Hanger hooks, doors, mirrors, light switch and plug socket faces (cut the power to the room first, even though you're just removing the plastic facing), shelf brackets, thermostat controls, and so on. It's easier to simply remove them than it is to try to keep paint off of them. If you're covering small items, you can get by with mummifying them in tape. Use the cloth, paper, or plastic for large area, and border it with the tape to stick it on. Never trust your covering to a single layer; overlap everything to make sure that if you rip a hole in something, that won't be the one place where paint leaks through. By the way, instead of agonizing over getting the tape border exactly straight, just put it on naturally and then trim the overlap by cutting it back with a razor.
An exception is the hanging lamps or chandeliers in the room. Ceiling lighting fixtures are both too difficult to remove and too labor intensive to wrap. Why not just cover it with a heavy-duty trash bag and duct-tape the opening around the neck? I knew you'd like that idea!
Next, you'll need to at least clean the surface you're going to paint, and possibly patch and prime it as well. Washing is a simple matter of soapy water and a sponge. Depending on what kind of walls you have, there may be some scraping of old paint and filling in of nail holes and cracks. Make sure, after whatever improvements you have decided to make at this point, that the surface you want to paint is clean and dry.
By the way, nothing is more irritating than finishing a new paint job only to have to pick hairs and dirt out of it. So not only should your walls be clean, but should stay clean while the paint is wet. That means putting up some kind of barrier to dust from outside the room, keeping pets out, keeping windows screened so insects and outside litter stays out, and not smoking in the room. For instance, if you're painting a bedroom while somebody else is drywalling the hallway (notice how home improvement projects tend to bunch up on you?) you can tape up a plastic sheet over the doorway to the bedroom to act as a dust curtain.
As for the kind of paint and quality of tools: A common maxim in the painting trade is that you can do it the cheap way and have it to do again next year, or you can do it the expensive way and not have to do it again for eight years. So, high quality paints and tools only cost a few dollars more than the bargain stuff, and will save you money and labor in the long run. Paint quality isn't so much a matter of brand as the different kinds of paint each brand offers.
Painting itself is somewhat monotonous work. It helps to have two people or if you're doing it solo, an iPod or radio going. Music tends to help keep you relaxed and focused. Get just enough paint on your roller or brush and apply evenly and generously. While today's paints aren't quite as stinky as those of ten years ago, they are still harmful if inhaled in concentrated quantities; always keep that window open or fan going and keep things ventilated, perhaps even ducking out of the Painted Area once an hour to get a clear breather.
Good luck and have fun!

Watercolor Painting Question?
Should I take Water Color painting next year at school even though I can't draw?
Also, what kind of painting pad should I get?
No hate answers plz. Thanks
It never hurts to build drawing skills before during and after a painting class. You can take watercolor classes without having strong drawing skills. As a student you will pick up drawing skills along the way in painting too. Don't listen to advice that you should use 100% rag paper or heavy watercolor paper etc. when learning to handle this medium to start. Most of the works you will do to start will be more less disposable anyway as you will just be learning. Practicing to mix colors and learning techniques like brush handling and brush strokes does not require expensive paper! Yes it is important to use the best paper and paints when you have a design worked out and are confident and ready to do a final major work. For now get a decent watercolor pad (student grade ) to learn on. Save the expensive paper and professional paints for later when you are more skilled and have more idea of what you want to paint.

Ideas for Using Acrylic Paint on Your Scrapbooking Projects
There are such a variety of accents that can be used in any type of scrapbooking project. One of my favourite accents is acrylic paint. Acrylic paint is wonderful, because it is acid-free, dries very quickly, it's water-based, and when used undiluted, has a great opacity so you don't need much to cover things up with (even mistakes). You really can use most water-based brands, but I love the kind that Making Memories offers. The colors are just wonderful! This type of paint can be used with dry brushes, foam stamps or foam brushes and sponges, and as a base or for decoration. There are so many possibilities and here I will describe a few for you:
• Don't know just how to accent your photo in a subtle manner? Frame it with acrylic paint in the color of your choice. Adhere the photo on the layout where it's going to remain (so make sure that is where you want it), then take a medium sized dry brush (approx. 2 cm in width), dab a little paint onto the tip of the brush and paint along the edges of the photo (yes, on the photo) and onto the cardstock itself with just one or two strokes along each side to give it a vintage or rummage look. It makes a very special and romantic type of frame with pastels and very pop art using bright colors.
• Instead of using ink for stamping, take a foam brush, dab into your favourite color of paint and brush a thin layer onto the stamp you want to use, press onto your layout lightly. If you press too hard it might smudge. You have to figure out how to use just the right amount of pressure. Practice on a scrap sheet a few times, before you go for the real thing.
• You don't like the color of your brads, tags or buttons? Paint them over with acrylic paint and then cover with gloss. You've just created your very own special embellishment! How cool is that?!
• Do you have any cardstock you never use, because you don't like the color or you can't find anything to match it with? What you can do is paint a base coat of white gesso for priming. That will neutralize the original color of the cardstock, so you can just paint over it for a new color of cardstock. You can also use the acrylic paint with a sponge or a stamp to make patterned cardstock from plain cardstock.
• Acrylic paint also works well on transparencies and has a great 3-D effect, especially if you're using a stamp with the paint. You first can stamp the paint directly onto the layout and when it's dried adhere a piece of transparency on top of the first stamped image and stamp a new coat of paint slightly off to one side of the original stamp to give it a popping out effect. It looks fabulous!
• To create special titles for your layout, you can use paint with stencils, but make sure you temporarily adhere the stencil to the page before you start to prevent it from moving around.
• If you're using a scrapbooking frame for your layout, paint or stamp it to match the layout. You would be surprised what a difference it makes!
So, you can see how many ways there are to use acrylic paint for scrapbooking projects, although these are only a few techniques. There are so many more. Be creative, be daring and don't be afraid to "dabble" here or "dabble" there. A little word play... Go for it! You will love it, I promise!

Will household emulsion paint on canvas look as good as acrylic paints?
I want to use emulsion paint on canvas and varnish over with gloss acrylic varnish. Would such a painting last as long as one painted with archival quality acrylic paints? Would the colors dull with age if varnish is applied? I am looking for cheap alternatives to acrylic painting, mainly for large (4 foot by 6 foot) paintings.
I believe regular emulsion paint will flake off after some time, even if covered with varnish. Both coats could peel. Try low sheen emulsion, since this almost has an oil paint finish in a water base.

Acrylic Paint Artists
Acrylic Paint Artists

Acrylic Paints are a great option for budding artists
Acrylic paints are quite a new medium in the world of art if you compare them to the likes of oil paints or watercolours. The paint itself has only been available on a commercial basis since the 1950's after the acrylic resin which forms the paint was invented by a Dr. Otto Rohm. The medium has been recurrently developed and refined ever since. Many new genres of art were developed after the paint was utilised by the likes of Andy Warhol, who set the standard for ‘pop art' in the 1960's. This medium also adheres to attributes of other types of paint deeming it very versatile and perfect for anybody starting out. Art is all about experimentation after all.
Many reputable art suppliers will definitely stock acrylic paints, given their popularity, and they will often vary in price and quality. You can also purchase sets which offer a variety of colours and sometimes include acrylic brushes also, great as an initial starting point for the absolute beginner. It is very easy to manipulate this particular medium given its dexterous qualities. With the addition of water, acrylic paints can be thinned to a consistency that mimics watercolour paints. You can also layer very easily; allowing one layer to dry you can immediately add another on top of it. The only downside to using this particular technique is that unlike watercolours, the colours cannot be blended again once dry. Acrylic paints are water resistant once dry, great for stencils or block colours but not so flexible if you want to continuously blend colours together. As long as you keep it wet this should not be a problem.
This medium can also be utilised in crafts, not just simply canvas painting. One dry it is permanent, so it is perfect for small projects or painting miniature models and such. Many professionals who use it will have perfected techniques and methods which suit their painting style. As an amateur artist or student of art finding the right brand of acrylic paints and forming your technique and ideas is just as important. Another great attribute to this medium is the immensely quick drying time. A perfect quality for those who are new to arts and crafts, meaning you can work quickly and see the dry finished results straight away. Most sets available will offer a range of colours and of course the more you get used to the medium of acrylic paint, the more adventurous you can be.

Hey, acrylic artists! Question about paint...read details?
Hi, I'm new to acrylics and just ordered a set of atelier interactives. Have you used them? Are they easy to blend with a longer blending window than other brands (as the company claims)? Tell me your experiences and opinion. Thanks!
I use interactive exclusively in a professional studio, and I can't recommend them highly enough.
They don't form a skin, and they stay workable until they are dry all the way through, lengthening the window of workability. They can be lightly misted with water now and then, to further lengthen that window.

Oil Painting Tips : Acrylic Paint vs. Oil Paint

How to Pick the Right Paint for an Art Project
Paint is a versatile medium that's relatively inexpensive and easy to use. As such, it makes a great finish for thousands of home and personal craft projects for all ages, from tie-dyed t-shirts to fanciful birdhouses and classic home accessories. Online arts and crafts suppliers like Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and Jerry's Artarama are good places to start finding paints, painting information and projects for your whole family to enjoy. In the meantime, check out these tips for picking the right art project paint.
Wood Crafts
Whether you're building a birdhouse, a treasure box or another wood project from scratch, the right paint will put a beautiful finish on your project. Acrylic in the best choice. It's goes on smooth, it dries faster, and it's easy to use and clean up. Oil ones finish nicely, but when the wood naturally expands and contracts, the finished project can become brittle and crack and colors can yellow as they age.
Creative Fashion
Pick up fabric paint and colorful dyes to dress up a plain t-shirt with bold designs, favorite characters or unique swirls of color. Or, decorate a pillow with a freehand drawing or by applying fabric paint over a stencil. Pick a smaller design and repeat it, along the hem of a pair of curtains, for instance, to give any room an individual flavor. For the best results, use this art medium on a washable, 100% natural fiber or a 50/50 cotton/polyester blend. Be sure to test it on an inconspicuous spot before you begin your project.
Personalized Glass
The gift of a beautiful glass vase, mirror or set of drink ware is usually appreciated, but if you put a personal touch on the gift with enamel paint, it becomes heartfelt and memorable. Or create a garden suncatcher by painting the panes of a wood-frame window and drilling holes in the top of the frame to string strong wire for hanging it. This is an ancient art that's still fun and easy for all ages. Most modern glass enamels are water-based, making cleanup simple, and Painted Glass ware is usually dish-washer safe.
Home Decor
You can use many types of craft paint, from acrylics and oils to spray and metallic surfacers, to personalize your home accessories. Spray paint is your friend, and there are many quality brands that will put a long-lasting finish on your wood, metal and plastic accessories and furniture. Work in short, steady bursts and layer on the color for an even finish without drips. It also can be used to create a faux appearance. For instance, if you want to make a wall or object appear as if it's made of metal, paint it with a metallic surfacer. This type blends finely ground metals into an acrylic binder; it can even be used to create a magnetic bulletin board on any large flat surface. Instantly age your outdoor accessories by applying an antiquing solution to the surfacer.

Does painting wood with emulsion paint prevent woodworm infestation?
Our house doesn't have a woodworm problem at the moment. I've painted the cellar ceiling timbers (which is the same timber as the living room floorboards) with normal emulsion just to brighten the cellar up. IF .... IF an adult beetle gets in to my cellar, would it lay it's eggs in the emulsioned timber?
Some people have just answered 'no'.
Does this mean 'no' the beetle won't lay it's eggs in the timber, or no, it won't stop them?
No. Borax prevents, Paraffin kills.

Wall Artwork for Modern Homes & Offices
Modern Wall Art
The popularity of modern fine art keeps growing globally. The gorgeous, clean exhibits add life and also vitality to homes and places of work. Modern artwork is commonly easier than you think to match with a selection of designs of furniture and decor. Comparable to 'contemporary' and 'abstract,' modern wall paintings are a relatively new style in the world of painted art. Due to the selection of subjects, broad lanscape of artists, and recent worldwide popularity, it's not unheard of to own original modern paintings today. Actually, many modern artists will recreate exactly the same art so often to satisfy the requirement for certain styles. This allows the purchaser to take pleasure from the texture, detail and emotion of an original modern painting on their own wall, rather than settling for a print or reproduction.
Why is a Painting 'Modern'?
Most modern art features numerous shapes along with colors, and are often times basic in design. It is incredibly common to see squares, rectangles, lines and circles in modern art paintings. Modern artwork just isn't so much about the detail or realism, but instead the emotion and aesthetics. Colors may vary from bright rainbow colors, to soft earth tones, to clean black and white. With certain modern artwork, the subject of the painting might be a modified/simplified version of the original (similar to to abstract art or cubism - the artist will modify real life subjects according to their interpretation.)
How is a Modern Painting Constructed?
The modern painting starts being a blank canvas extended over a wooden frame, known as the 'gallery wrap.' This is the logical first step in any type of painting, not just modern style. The artist will then, mix their paints to the desired colors and proceed to create their modern materpiece. Most paintings will take a few days or weeks to totally dry, based on the type and thickness of the paint, and many other exterior factors. It is prudent to wait the required time for your paint to dry before packaging and/or shipping the artwork.
It is extremely common to hang the art on your wall as a gallery wrap, instead of having the painting framed. With modern wall art you will generally only frame a print or a giclee, but rarely the original canvas.
Future of Modern Art
As a result of neat and simple styles of modern paintings, it is difficult to imagine them going out of style in the near future. The wide variety of modern art can adapt to various surroundings, so even as home decor and architectural styles evolve, modern artwork should retain its' stronghold as the premier type of wall art for countless years to come.
