Bathrooms. Being often wet and steamy, bathrooms pose some difficulties. Previously painted bathrooms need a good clean to remove mould and slow down its regrowth. The painted surface must be sound enough to resist penetration by water vapour, and tough enough to withstand wiping down. Wet areas were once painted with enamels, but these days we use Gloss or Semi Gloss Acrylic because it has excellent adhesion to old gloss enamel surfaces.
Bedrooms. Try to avoid glossy surfaces in bedrooms, as reflected light can spoil their tranquillity. Low sheen or Flat Acrylic is best for adult rooms, but use Low Sheen in children's rooms where regular cleaning might be necessary. If your walls are in good condition, use Low Sheen. However, if your walls are not in the best condition, use Flat. It can still be cleaned and, although not as smooth as Low Sheen, it has outstanding hiding power for covering surface imperfections. It is particularly good for older and period houses.
Brickwork. It has been fashionable to strip back the render on exterior brickwork to show off the original sandstock textures and colors. Unfortunately, this has led to dampness in many houses. Old bricks were not meant to be left exposed. However, you can still have the best of both worlds by painting with a weather-resistant paint that seals the bricks against moisture penetration.
Ceilings. If your ceilings have surface imperfections, and even if they don't, the best choice is an acrylic paint that gives a flat, non-reflective finish. Its very effective hiding-power provides one-coat coverage over previously painted ceilings of most colors, which saves you both time and effort. It's touch-dry in just about 20 minutes and its low-spatter formula means less mess.
Decks. Unless decking boards are painted as soon as they are fixed in place, the surface will age and turn grey. The greyness represents ageing, which won't hold paint for very long. If the boards are already grey, sand-off the surface before painting. Priming will improve durability. Use a paint that is specially formulated for decking.
Dining Rooms. You can use just about any paint system in the dining room, but if it is part of an open-plan kitchen, smoke from the kitchen will migrate to the eating area. A paint with good washdown properties would be best in such a situation.
Doors (Exterior). The weather is the greatest enemy here. Such a large timber surface is subject to considerable stress, as it is heated by the sun, cooled at night and dampened by rain. If your exterior doors are to remain beautiful, it is essential to protect them. Use a weatherproof paint or a High Gloss Enamel.

Steps to create a painted Christmas card:
1. First mix enough water with small amount of green acrylic paint to create a thin wash and thoroughly mix it.
2. Dip your brush in the wash and paint the front of the card in straight brush strokes. You have to cover the card with the wash as quickly as possible as so the stokes of your paint brush won't show and the card has a nice even coat of the wash being created. After you finish the wash you need to blot up the excess wash from the front of your card completely. Let your card dry and then place a new piece of paper towel over the card and place a heavy book on top of the card so that it dries flat. This is necessary so that it is flat before you draw on your design.
3. Draw your design on the front of the card lightly with a pencil and then draw a faint line where you could writer your own words.
4. Once you are satisfied with the design, assign colors to each part and trace over these parts with the help of markers of the chosen colors. These colors should correspond with the paint colors that you shall use on the parts of the design later.
5. Trace over the thin lines that you drew for the words with the liquid gold marker. Let it dry and then test it by pressing a paper on the line and lift it carefully to check whether it had dried.
6. With the help of the red calligraphy pen write the words "Merry Christmas" on the gold line you have created. Practice on another sheet of paper if you feel necessary. You can also cover your words with a small piece of paper to blot it while you continue to decorate your card.
7. You can trace the design with glitter paint and then using the fine tip of the bottle or pen trace around the parts of the design in their respective colors such as yellow-gold, silver-silver, red-red, green-green. To spread the paint around the thinner than the lines created by the tips of the bottles or pens you are using just smear it with the help of a toothpick.
8. Next change the color of the calligraphy pen to black and write a message inside the card as well. Practice it on a separate piece of paper and then place a paper towel over the ink to blot so that it does not bleed to other side of the card before it dries. You can also let it dry standing up and open.
